Connector Hose Heater Control Valve Replacement

What is the Connector Hose Heater Control Valve all about?

The heater control valve is attached to two connector hoses. One hose brings coolant in to the heater control valve from the engine and the other hose allows it to flow out to the heater core. The heater control valve pumps coolant from the engine to the heater core, which will then be released into the cabin as warm air. The hoses provide the structure for the coolant to travel.

They are attached to the components by clamps. When they have cracks or breaks, the coolant leaks out and won’t allow the vehicle’s interior to heat up, resulting in a cold ride. The hoses are made of various materials, such as rubber or heavy-duty plastic, and they can wear out over time. When this happens, the hoses will need to be replaced to ensure the heater continues to work effectively.

Keep in mind:

  • The control valve has two connector hoses; since they are installed at the same time and are the same age, it is a good idea to replace both hoses together.
  • The hose clamps may need to be replaced as well to prevent future leaks.
  • Hoses can be damaged by an oil leak.

How it's done:

  • The Connector Hose Heater Control Valve is verified that it needs to be replaced. The coolant is drained from the radiator till the level is below heater lines.
  • The defective Connector Hose Heater Control Valve is removed from the heater inlet hose by loosening the clamps.
  • The new Connector Hose Heater Control Valve is installed with new clamps and tightened. The coolant is refilled in the system.
  • The Connector Hose Heater Control Valve is tested for leaks while the engine is running.
  • The vehicle is tested for proper operation of the Heater Control.

Our recommendation:

Have the connector heater control valve and hoses inspected regularly by one of our expert mechanics. If the hoses show signs of wear or cracking, have them replaced before they begin leaking.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Connector Hose Heater Control Valve?

  • Stiff or hardened connector hose
  • Cracks in connector hose
  • No warm air coming out of heater vents

How important is this service?

If the connector hose is not replaced, you won’t have heat in the vehicle during cold weather. Not only will this make driving unpleasant, but it will make your windshield fog or frost and make it difficult to see. A cracked or worn connector hose to the heater control valve should be replaced right away.
